PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large bundle binding machine which has a good workability at the times of a filling operation and a taking-out operation. SOLUTION: This large bundle binding machine has a small bundle group receiving recess section 40, a binding tape winding mechanism, an attitude converting mechanism, and a controlling device. In this case, the small bundle group receiving recess section 40 has a rectangular opening section 14 on a top surface 11 of the machine body, and indents downward, and at the same time, the bottom section of which is constituted of a vertically movable elevator 39. The binding tape winding mechanism can wind a binding tape in the horizontal direction around a small bundle group which is mounted on the elevator in the small bundle group receiving recess section 40. The attitude converting mechanism converts the attitude of the small bundle group which is mounted on the elevator while making the longitudinal direction meet the horizontal direction into an attitude wherein the longitudinal direction meets the vertical direction. The controlling device winds the binding tape in the longitudinal direction of the small bundle group after lowering the elevator to a binding position in the longitudinal direction of the small bundle group, and converts the attitude of the small bundle group on the elevator to an attitude wherein the longitudinal direction meets the vertical direction by the attitude converting mechanism. Then, the controlling device winds the binding tape in the lateral direction of the small bundle group by the tape winding mechanism after moving the elevator to the binding position in the lateral direction of the small bundle group, and raises the elevator to a taking-out position of a large bundle.
