A colour viewing screen of the kind having indexing stripes is made by applying to a transparent base 10, Fig. 1, groups of insulating colour stripes R, G, B leaving spaces I therebetween, applying a coating 11, 12 of electrically conducting material over the stripes and spaces, the nature of the materials used and the method of application being such that the spaces are provided with a coating 11 of good electrical conductivity while the coating 12 over the groups of stripes is discontinuous, the coating 11 in the spaces being connected together and applying over the coating 11, 12 of conducting material a layer of high secondary electron emissive material 13. The conducting material may be aluminium and the stripes R, G, B may themselves be separated by inactive insulating stripes 0. The coating of conductive material may be divided into two mutually insulated parts having portions interleaved with one another e.g. by connecting together the stripes 11 in alternate spaces I.
