PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a servo signal recorder and a servo signal recording method, wherein output of a servo signal is made high, an S/N ratio of the servo signal is secured, the S/N ratio of the data signal is not reduced and deterioration in an error rate is eliminated. SOLUTION: The servo signal recording device is provided with: an AC-erasure means performing AC-erasure of a magnetic layer 31 of a magnetic tape 9; a DC-erasure means performing DC-erasure of a surface layer part of the magnetic layer 31 by magnetic force in the longitudinal direction (an arrow Y) of the magnetic tape; and a servo signal recording means recording the servo signal by magnetic force in a direction (an arrow X) reverse to the direction of the magnetic force of the DC-erasure means, wherein the DC-erasure means forms a magnetization region 34 in the thickness direction from the surface of the magnetic tape 9 to the depth of magnetization regions 35 and 36 based on data or a deeper part.
