The device has a force sensor (1) e.g. resistive band, fitted in an inner lower part (2a) of a main bearing (2) of a crankshaft (3) of an internal combustion engine. The ohmic value of the band is varied as a function of forces (F) exerted on the bearing. The band detects the forces exerted on the bearing, under the effect of variation of pressure generated in cylinders of the engine, during the operation of the engine. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method for determining pressure in the cylinders of an internal combustion engine (b) an application of the cylinder pressure determination method to the engine control of a vehicle.
