PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound having controlling activities against plant disease caused by downy mildew or late blight. SOLUTION: The agent for controlling the plant disease, containing (4S)-4,8-dihydroxy-2,3,4-trihydronaphthalen-1-one obtained by extracting a cultured liquid of Lambertella sp. 1346 (deposit number: FERM BP-08596) as an active ingredient has excellent activities for controlling the plant disease caused by the downy mildew or the late blight. As a result, the application of the (4S)-4,8-dihydroxy-2,3,4-trihydronaphthalen-1-one on the plant is useful as a method for controlling the plant disease caused by the downy mildew or the late blight.
