<p>The screw (1) has a thread-forming thread creating a metric thread and a load-bearing thread portion (3) forming thread portion tapering to a screw tip. A set of flights of the portion is sharp-edged and fully formed. The tip has a thread run-out that extends over a pitch, and the flights are partially blunted. A ratio of length of tapered thread region to nominal diameter of the thread is between 0.6 to 1. The thread portion has a sub-portion (4-1) tapering from the thread portion and another sub-portion (4-2) tapering from the former sub-portion.
