A bone graft material includes granules of synthetic bone material, some of which are coated with a solid blood-clotting agent. Preferably, the agent comprises 2-40% by weight of the graft material and covers more than half of its surface area. The agent may be calcium chloride, zeolite, chitosan, ferrate salts, a clotting factor or a tissue factor. The graft material is mixed with whole blood before being implanted into a bone. A device for delivering the implant is also disclosed, having: a chamber pre-loaded and / or pre-coated on an interior surface with a blood-clotting agent and preferably a dehydration agent; means for introducing bone-replacement material into the chamber to contact the blood-clotting agent; and a means for delivering the bone-substitute material from the chamber to the site to be treated. |
