An engine assembly comprises an internal combustion (IC) engine 100, a turbocharger 114 and at least one Stirling engine 110, 122, the turbocharger 114 being arranged to draw air in through an air inlet path 120, compress it, and pass it to the IC engine 100, and the turbocharger's air inlet path 120 communicating with heat discharged from the Stirling engine(s) 110, 122 to pick up heat there from. A coolant circuit 102 is provided to pick up heat from the IC engine 100 and deliver it to the Stirling engine(s) 110, 122 to be used as an energy source. The cooling circuit 102 may also pick up heat from an inlet air intercooler 112 located between the turbocharger 114 and the IC engine 100, and/or from an exhaust gas heat exchanger 108 located between the IC engine 100 and the turbocharger 114. Additional heat pick up locations may also include a catalytic converter and/or a refrigerator/air conditioning unit. |
