A method of installing borehole heat exchangers 2, 4 comprises forcing the heat exchanger into the ground by means of a pushing device or shoe 8, 10. In this way, the earth is first compressed by the pushing device, after which it expands into the void vacated by the device and in which the heat exchanger is located, thereby improving the contact between the heat exchanger and the ground. Also disclosed is an apparatus for performing the method, in which a pilot bore is established by means of either a leading cutting head, an expansion tool, a drill bit, a compaction roller or stabilization grooves. |
