PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping force adjustment type hydraulic shock absorber having reduced manufacturing cost and axial size. SOLUTION: A piston 5 is slidably connected into a cylinder 2 in which oil liquid is filled, and a piston rod 7 is connected to the piston 5 via a solenoid assembly 6. Damping force is generated by elongation and contraction side damping valves 12, 13 and a coil 23 of the solenoid assembly 6 is energized to move a spool valve 17 for damping force adjustment. To a case 21 storing the coil 23, a piston bolt 8 mounted on the piston 5 and a base 25 mounted on the piston rod 7 are fitted. The case 21 is caulked at both ends so that its caulked portions 21A, 21B fix the piston bolt 8 and the base 25 to the case 21. The caulking work eliminates screw connection, resulting in reduced manufacturing cost and axial size. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
