A filter device for water purification is provided to prevent a phenomenon that alien substances contained in raw water are closed in pores of the filter, extend service life of the ceramic filter semi-permanently, and maintain and manage the filter device easily by flowing raw water into a ceramic filter and discharging the raw water toward an outer wall side of the ceramic filter. A filter device for water purification comprises: a filter case(20) of which top and bottom parts are finished with filter covers(23) respectively; a hollow cylindrical ceramic filter(25) which is disposed within the filter case and has a plurality of pores, the pores being gradually enlarged as it goes from an inner wall of the filter toward an outer wall thereof; an inlet(30) disposed on an upper side of the filter case such that water flows into the ceramic filter; and an outer(35) disposed on one side of the filter case to discharge water passing through the pores of the ceramic filter to the outside. The ceramic filter contains a plurality of ceramic balls(45) therein to sterilize water in the ceramic filter and clean the inner wall of the ceramic filter. The filter device further comprises a mesh(50) disposed on a bottom part of the filter case, a drain tank(55) mounted on a bottom part of the mesh to store alien substances and cleaning residues, a drain cock(57) installed on one side of the drain tank, and a vortex generating unit(60) installed in the ceramic filter to flow the ceramic balls in the ceramic filter.
