<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust an amount lift of an engine valve without applying excessive load to a hydraulic tappet even under a condition where hydraulic pressure is not supplied to the hydraulic tappet. <P>SOLUTION: A jig 63 abutting on a rocker arm 22 and constituting a rocking fulcrum of the rocker arm 22 is provided in place of a hydraulic tappet 31 supporting the rocker arm 22 arranged in a drive force transmitting path transmitting a drive force of a valve drive cam 14 to an intake valve 12 in such a manner that the jig can freely rock and generates an energizing force for adjusting a clearance in the drive force transmission path. The rocking fulcrum of the rocker arm 22 is secured by the jig 63 and the adjustment of the lift amount of the intake valve 12 can be performed even during the stop of an internal combustion engine in which the hydraulic tappet 31 cannot operate. Since a load acting on the rocker arm 22 is not supported by the jig 63 and not transmitted to the hydraulic tappet 31 during the adjustment of the lift amount of the intake valve 12, the hydraulic tappet 31 can be protected from damage without special reinforcement, which contributes to the miniaturization and improvement of the durability of the hydraulic tappet 31. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
