854,597. Thermionic-cathode tubes. TESLA NARODNI PODNIK. March 6, 1958 [March 6, 1957], No. 7237/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1). A tacitron, i.e. a thyratron in which the control grid has openings of a size comparable with the thickness of the Langmuir layers thus enabling the discharge to be cut off with a small negative grid bias even in the case of maximum anode current, has a filling consisting substantially of hydrogen. It is stated that contrary to published theory which indicated that a gas with a high atomic weight should be used in tacitrons, and led to the general use of xenon or mercury vapour, hydrogen is a suitable filling and enables higher powers (up to 1 KW continuous or 15 KW pulsed) to be controlled. Cut-off characteristics and curves plotting tube drop and controlled voltage against gas pressure are given for xenon and hydrogen. |
