[PROBLEMS] To provide a heat-ray sensor for reliably distinguishing a human body from a small animals passing directly near the sensor without lowering the performance of sensing a person entering an alert object area. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A heat-ray sensor for detecting a moving object such as an entering person comprises an optical unit having a substrate disposed in front of a base and having lenses arranged vertically at predetermined intervals and sensing elements arranged in positions corresponding to the lenses and control means for processing signals from the sensing elements. The heat-ray sensor is characterized in that the intervals between the lenses are narrow relative to the size of a human body and wide relative to small animals, and the control means judges whether a moving object is an entering person or a small animal by judging temporal coincidence of the sense signals from the sensing elements or by adding the sense signals.
