The locking device (10) has a roller catch (14) co-operating with a latch (16), and a closing unit (12) fixed by the catch in a closed position, when a vehicle door is closed. The closing unit is firmly held by the catch and arrested by the latch in an intermediate locking position. The latch is movable for releasing the catch in a released position. A locking unit (17) is coupled with the latch, and provides a locking surface (22), which contacts with a retaining surface (33) of the catch residing in the release position for blocking the latch.
