<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader where the opening/closing speed of a sheet pressing part is made constant when the sheet pressing part is closed completely and when it is opened completely, and an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The manual opening/closing of the sheet pressing part 100 is assisted by a motor-driven opening/closing part. When manually opening/closing the sheet pressing part 100, the opening/closing speed of the sheet pressing part 100 by the motor-driven opening/closing part is changed according to external force applied to the sheet pressing part 100 by a speed changing part. When determining that the sheet pressing part 100 exists in a first area where its opening/closing speed is changed according to the external force, the opening/closing speed is changed according to the external force, and when determining that the sheet pressing part 100 exists in a second area just before it is closed completely or the sheet pressing part 100 moves to a third area just before it is opened completely, the opening/closing speed is set to predetermined speed regardless of the external force. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
