<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can speedily perform the printing which requires the judgement for color/monochrome. <P>SOLUTION: The printer 10 which can perform the automatic judgement for color/monochrome is constituted as an apparatus which performs the color/monochrome judgement when compressed CMYK page data from RGB printing data is formed. In this case, the compressed CMYK page data is one which can form data to be fed to a printing engine 13 by decompressing.
