PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an analog-to-digital converter reducing wasteful power consumption, to provide a signal processing system using the converter, and to provide an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: A DSP 18 computes the amount of light irradiated on a CCD 12 by integrating with respect to time, using input image data. The DSP determines whether the light amount is equal to or smaller than a predetermined threshold. When the light amount is equal to or smaller than the predetermined threshold, the DSP outputs a control signal to an A/D converter 20 for making it operate in the 8-bit mode. When the light amount is greater than the threshold, the DSP outputs a control signal to the AD converter 20 for making it operate in the 10-bit mode. The AD converter 20 carries out dynamic adjustment of a number of conversion bits according to control by the DSP 18. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
