PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automate start-up for a SCSI card in a device having a number of card mounting slots. SOLUTION: The disclosed computer system comprises: a CPU 1 which controls operations of the whole system; a system bus 2 which allows exchange of control signal and data between the CPU and each component; a configuration control part 3 which lays the system in a required operation starting state; a power supply part 4 which supplies power to each part of the device; a BIOS control part 5 which controls functions of a BIOS; an extension bus I/F part 6 which allows the interface between the system and an extension bus; an extension bus 7 which allows exchange of control signal and data between the extension bus I/F part and a slot part; a slot part 8 which allows exchange of control signal and data between the SCSI card and the extension bus; the SCSI card 9a which allows the interface between a DISK under the SCSI card and the extension bus; and the DISK 9b under the SCSI card which stores an OS-startable file system.
