PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method effective for realizing improvement of picture quality and reduction of power consumption by backlight control. SOLUTION: A lamp current detected for each lighting block BL1 to BL4 through a detection resistor is inputted in a backlight control part 16 consisting of a digital circuit, and, after being A/D converted at a digitalizing part 58 for each block, is compared with a control target value by a comparator part 60. Error informations obtained as a result are integrated at a loop filter 62, and integration results are processed at a driving pulse generating part 56 to have driving pulses generated for driving each lighting block BL1 to BL4 with. The driving pulses are outputted from output ports P1 to P4 through a driver 22 into each lighting block BL1 to BL4, and lighting control of the lamps is carried out by a bridge circuit based on the driver outputs.
