摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an appropriate technology capable of dealing a clearance change between a head element and a disk by accurately calculating a height from a read signal in a disk drive device. SOLUTION: In one embodiment of this invention, an HDC/MPU 23 specifies a head element part 122, where instability occurs, according to a resolution change. The HDC/MPU 23 adjusts a clearance (S11). In the matched state of signal intensity with a reference value, the head element part 122 reads a signal of a different frequency (S12), and the HDC/MPU 23 calculates resolution (S13). The HDC/MPU 23 determines the occurrence of instability when a difference between the calculated resolution and a reference value exceeds a reference (S16).
