The invention relates to a method for operating a power plant (10) comprising a turbine train (11) composed of a gas turbine (12) and a generator (18), directly driven by the gas turbine (12) and generating alternating current of an operating frequency, the output of said generator being connected to a network (21) of a predetermined network frequency. An electronic decoupling device (27) is interposed between the generator (18) and the network (21) and decouples the operating frequency from the network frequency. An improved support of the network frequency in the event of short-term over- or underfrequencies can be achieved in that the mechanical rotational speed of the gas turbine (12) is reduced more than the network frequency when the network (21) has an underfrequency, and is increased more than the network frequency when the network (21) has an overfrequency.
