PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft which can prevent engines which have stopped from being damaged by the high-temperature exhaust of the engines which are operating, when part of the engines of a plurality of engines stop and the rest of the engines is operating. SOLUTION: The vertical takeoff and landing aircraft is equipped with a barrel 11 having a cabin large enough for occupants to get therein, a plurality of engines 12, 13 for generating thrust which are provided on the barrel 11 and individually controlled, a plurality of exhaust pipes 12b, 13b provided at respective exhaust ports in the plurality of engines 12, 13 for generating thrust, a collecting exhaust pipe 14 for collecting the plurality of exhaust pipes 12b, 13b, a shielding plate 15 for blocking the exhaust 12b or 13b of the stopping engine 12 or 13 among the plurality of engines 12, 13, and an actuator 16 for driving the shielding plate 15 by the exhaust of the operating engine 12 or 13.
