Using the said method and device in the invention embodiments, the designated value of the appearance customization element can be activated or anti-activated; the designated value of the appearance customization element can be locked or unlocked; when the designated value of the appearance customization element is modified, the appearance customization element associated with the designated value of the appearance customization element is modified; inquiring the default value of the appearance customization element of the terminal device; setting the parameter of the appearance customization element, therefore adding the customization function of the appearance of the terminal device, and promoting the development of the terminal device appearance customization.
