PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set for automatically setting a manner mode or a public mode as a place changes. SOLUTION: By a control unit 19, a position corresponding to current position information p generated by a position detection part 13 and map information in its neighborhood are acquired from a prescribed map information providing web site on the Internet via a radio communication part 14. It is judged whether or not a specific sound regulation area registered to a specific sound regulation in an area registration part 15 is written in the map information. When it is written, a manner mode is set to a voice generation part 16 and when the current position information p is not generated by the position detection part 13, the public mode is set to the radio communication part 14. Also, when the current position information p comes to be generated by the position detection part 13, the public mode is canceled and operation of the radio communication part 14 is recovered, so that the manner mode or the public mode is set without making a user feel troublesome.
