An optimal recording method for an optical recording apparatus is provided to measure an RF(Radio Frequency) change and to obtain an optimal focus balance value by setting reference and maximum values of focus balance and increasing the focus balance value to the maximum value step by step. An optimal recording method for an optical recording apparatus comprises inserting an optical disk to be recorded(S210), detecting a focus balance value via process adjustment or auto-adjustment(S220), setting a minimum section of a jitter as a reference focus balance value and setting a maximum focus balance value(S230), carrying out OPC(optimum power calculation) recording operation using the detected focus balance value(S240), reading the recorded test data and checking whether a play RF signal outputted from an RF part is changed(S250), changing the focus balance value by one step toward the reference value and checking whether the RF change occurs when the RF signal has changed(S260,S270), and carrying out OPC recording operation and write operation by adjusting the detected focus balance value via process adjustment or auto-adjustment(S280,S290).
