The invention provides a novel media type referred to as scroll motion media. Scroll motion media encompasses in its scope traditional media such as video clips. However, unlike conventional media, scroll motion media accommodates "data motion" clips. The invention provides methods and systems for producing a multimedia presentation comprising the scroll motion clips including data motion clips. According to one embodiment at least one data motion clip and at least one video motion clip are selected to comprise the multimedia presentation. The data motion clip and the video motion clip are combined to form a media clip. Portions of the media clip are defined to comprise frames of a scroll motion media clip. Transitions are applied to the frames such that user activation of the transitions determines speed and direction of the multimedia presentation.
