<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light receiving/emitting device which enables a light-emitting element and a light-receiving element to be arranged in positions at a predetermined interval in between, without performing positional adjustment. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus (sublimation printer) comprises: a holding member 30 which includes a light-emitting element holding portion 30a, and a light-receiving element holding portion 30b which is provided at a predetermined interval from the light-emitting element holding portion 30a; a light-emitting element 27 which is arranged in the light-emitting element holding portion 30a; and a light-receiving element 28 which is arranged in the light-receiving element holding portion 30b, and which receives light emitted from the light-emitting element 27. The plurality of light-emitting element holding portions 30a, which are arranged in such a manner as to abut on an outside surface of the light-emitting element 27, include a light-emitting element engaging portion 30g for holding the light-emitting element 27 in the prescribed position of the light-emitting element holding portion 30a.
