PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent false focusing by improving focusing determination accuracy. SOLUTION: In a focusing device which is equipped with a first focusing means which focuses a photographic lens on a position where a focus evaluation value based on the contrast of an image picked up by an imaging element is almost maximum in the range where the focus evaluation value exceeds a threshold and a second focusing means which performs focusing by a system different from that of the first focusing means, and performs focusing by the first focusing means after focusing by the second focusing means, the threshold is changed on the basis of at least one of the focus detecting positions of the first focusing means and the second focusing means and a change in the state of the photographic lens, when focusing is completed by the second focusing means.
