PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device for a vehicle relieving the sense of incongruity given to a driver when a steering wheel is directly coupled to a steering mechanism when the steering device fails. SOLUTION: This steering device for a vehicle comprises an angle ratio variable means capable of changing the angle ratio of the steered angles of front wheels 10, 10 to the operating angle of the steering wheel 2; and a direct coupling means for directly coupling the steering wheel 2 to the steering mechanism 1 to fix the angle ratio. When the steering device fails such that a steering motor 3 comes out of order, the steering wheel 2 is directly coupled to the steering mechanism 1 by the operation of an electromagnetic clutch 5 serving as a direct coupling means, and a rotating body 6 is rotated relative to the steering wheel 2 by an angular deviation amount at the time of the direct coupling. Since the actual neutral position of the steering mechanism 1 and the neutral position recognized by the rotating body 6 on which a pattern is marked match each other, the sense of incongruity given to the driver can be relieved.
