PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for holding a pile of trays. SOLUTION: When holding a pile of trays T to be piled step by step into a plurality of stages without a contact between the trays T supplied to a fixed position one by one, a tray T held in a position above or below a space Es, which is formed by eliminating a tray T in any position among the trays T piled and held, is lowered or raised to be held so as to fill in the space Es.
