The microscope has a light source (1) for fluorescence illumination, and another light source (2) for evanescent illumination. Illuminating light coming from the light sources on different illuminating paths (5, 6) reaches an objective (4) and a probe (8) via a beam combining device (7). A changing mechanism passes and positions different radiation combining devices in an optical path. The beam combining devices are passed in the optical path by the changing mechanism, and adapted to different operating parameters of the microscope.
