A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device are provided to reduce deviations of electric currents flowing through respective lamp lines by simultaneously driving at least two lamp lines. A backlight unit includes (m+1) lamp lines(Line 1~Line n), a plurality of DC-DC converters(147), and first and second switching elements(ST1,ST2). Each of the (m+1) lamp lines has a metal PCB on which a plurality of LED lamps are mounted. Each of the DC-DC converters is connected to a first terminal of an m-th lamp line and a second terminal of an (m+1)-th lamp line. The plurality of DC-DC converters provide a first bias voltage and a second bias voltage to the first terminal of an m-th lamp line and the second terminal of an (m+1)-th lamp line, respectively. The first and second switching elements provide a reference voltage to a second terminal of an m-th lamp line and a first terminal of the (m+1)-th lamp line. |
