This invention provides a lithium nickel manganese cobalt composite oxide represented by LiaNixMnyCozO2, wherein x + y + z = 1 and 1.05 < a < 1.3. In data obtained by the measurement of a Raman spectrum of the composite oxide, the peak intensity of an Eg vibration mode of a hexagonal structure located at 480 to 495 cm-1 and the peak intensity of an F2g vibration mode of a spinel structure located at 500 to 530 cm-1 relative to the peak intensity of an A1g vibration mode of a hexagonal structure located at 590 to 610 cm-1 as a main peak are each not less than 15% and not more than 40% of the peak intensity of the A1g vibration mode of the hexagonal structure as the main peak. A lithium rechargeable battery having excellent rate properties and cycle properties can be provided by using the above material as a positive electrode active material of the lithium rechargeable battery. |
