A floating amount calculating device, a storage device, and a floating amount calculating method are provided to measure floating amount, using a control signal proper to read the user data so as to measure the floating amount of the head with high precision. A lead channel(100) has a data reproducing pass part(101), a servo reproducing part(102), an FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) calculating part(103), and an analog front end part(104). The data reproducing part includes an FIR(Finite Impulse Response) part(101a), a Viterbi decoding part(101b), a data sink mark detection part(101c), a decoding part(101d), and a data format part(101e). The servo reproducing pass part includes a servo FIR part(102a), a servo sink mark detection part(102c), a servo data format part(102d), and a PES calculating part(102e). The FFT calculating part has a basic wave/3th higher harmonies calculating part(103a), and a selection part(103b). The analog front end part includes a VGA(Variable Gain Amplifier) part(104a), an ASC(Asymmetric Collection) part(104b), a CTF(Continuous Time Filter) part(104c), and an ADC(Analog Digital Converter,104d).
