The system comprises a mobile recording device (5), and an identification device (6) for linking to an object requiring cleaning and including information allowing the object to be identified. The recording device comprises a data processor unit, at least one memory for storing data, a reading device for the identification information in the identification device, an input device for entering cleaning information, a transmitter for sending data via a network (7), and a processor with software for processing the identification and/or cleaning information. An independent claim is also included for a real time recording method using this system, in which a cleaner uses the recording device to identify an object requiring cleaning, enters the nature of the cleaning work into the recording device, uses the recording device to send the identification and/or cleaning information to a central computer (2-4) via a data network such as a LAN and/or the internet, and uses the recording device to identify that the object has been cleaned.
