<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of improving the reliability of biometrics for evaluating a projection line stripe pattern for authentication in an entrance area against a false trial. <P>SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method for the recognition of natural skin 5, the method comprising steps of illuminating the skin surface 4 at an irradiation point 1 with light from the visible spectrum or the adjacent spectrum, detecting a part of the light entering through the skin surface 4 at the irradiation point 1, scattered in the skin 5, and exiting from the skin surface 4 again at a detection point 9 by use of a detector 20; and passing the signal determined by the detector 20 to a comparator to be compared with stored data.
