<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control system for an internal combustion engine capable of efficiently activating a catalyst for exhaust emission control. <P>SOLUTION: A diesel engine 1 provided with the exhaust emission control system for the internal combustion engine is provided with the catalyst 51 for exhaust emission control, and a fuel adding valve 30 raising temperature of the catalyst for exhaust emission control by adding fuel, and includes an air blasting means blasting part of intake air on a nozzle 31 of the fuel adding valve 30.
