The protective armor has bullet proof steel plates (7a-7c) which are curved or enclosed at an angle for adjustment to an outer body design of a vehicle. One steel plate and/or a section of the steel plate opposite to adjacent steel plates have larger thickness produced by deposit welding. The steel plate (7b or 7c) strengthened by the deposit welding is arranged in a mounting position in the vehicle more steeply than an adjacent steel plate (7a or 7b) that is not strengthened.
