The present invention relates to a method of processing a digital image being represented by picture element data (100), each picture element data having a scalar value, the picture element data being stored on a mass storage device (202), the method comprising:
- selecting a sub-set of the picture elements using the scalar values as a selection criterion,
- generating a picture element table (218) comprising a table entry for each picture element of the sub-set, each table entry comprising the scalar value and a table entry field for pointers to neighbouring picture elements of the respective picture element, the table being sorted using the grey values as a sorting criterion and the table being stored in a random access memory (212),
- performing an image processing step using the picture element table. |
