METHOD AND FINISHING TRAIN FOR HOT-ROLLING STARTING MATERIAL

Hot rolling method for thin slabs or unfinished strip (200) comprises heating the starting material and passing it through finishing rollers (110-1 - 110-5). Heat loss is compensated for by heaters (120-0 - 120-5) mounted between the rollers. The initial temperature is measured and the heaters only operated when the temperature approaches a lower threshold and to maintain it above this threshold up to the point where it leaves the rolling stand. An independent claim is included for a rolling system for use in the method with a control unit (130) which determines the drop in temperature of the slab or strip in passing through the roll stand and switches on heaters as required to keep the temperature above a lower threshold.
