A wear-resistant composite sheet comprises a base layer of printable vinyl chloride polymer, a layer of drying oil-modified alkyd resin ink covering up to 100% of said base layer, a surface layer consisting of a clear preformed film of polyvinyl chloride, and between said surface layer and said ink layer a bonding layer composed of partially hydrolysed copolymer of 91% vinyl chloride, 3% vinyl acetate, and 6% vinyl alcohol, or a copolymer of from 80 to 90% vinyl chloride, 7.0 to 19.7% of vinyl acetate, and 0.3 to 3.0% of anα,#- olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid, said layers being integrally bonded by heat and pressure. The printable vinyl chloride polymer may comprise a self-sustaining film used alone or laminated to one or both sides of fabric, paper, metal foil, wood, or metal sheet, or may be a coating on a fabric. The selfsustaining film may be a calendered film comprising polyvinyl chloride, castor oil maleate, and titanium dioxide. The coated fabric base may be a cotton fabric (a) coated with a composition comprising the partially hydrolysable copolymer described above, a butanol-modified urea-formaldehyde resin, a drying oil modified alkyd resin, dipropylene glycol dibenzoate, titanium dioxide, and silica, with appropriate solvents, (b) coated first with a highly pigmented composition containing polyvinyl chloride, tricresyl phosphate, liquid polyalpha methylstyrene, and a minor amount of polyvinyl acetate, and then with a lowly pigmented similar composition omitting the polyvinyl acetate, and containing a solvent; after drying the fabric is heated to gel the coating, or (c) coated with a solution of a vinyl-chlorideacetate copolymer, a vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer, castor oil maleate and titanium dioxide. Printing may be carried out by lithographic, letterpresss, rotographic, and silk-screen techniques. The product is suitable for book-covers, maps, wall and furniture coverings, folding doors, case covers, wall panels, floor coverings, and interior trim for buildings and automobiles.
