A display device and a control method thereof are provided to calculate the elapse of time using a clock signal generation frequency, thereby having no need of a separate timer and reducing production cost. A display device includes a signal input unit(10), a signal processing unit(20), a display unit(30), a user input unit(40), a UI(User Interface) generating unit(50), a storage unit(55), and a control unit(60). The signal processing unit processes an image signal inputted from the signal input unit according to the control of the control unit. The control unit calculates the time elapsed after power is applied to the display device using a clock signal generation frequency.
