A preamble sensing device of a mobile communication system and a method thereof are provided to reduce a ratio remarkably that a terminal does not receive packet data or receives incorrect data even though a channel estimation value has an error, thereby tremendously improving reception performance of the wireless terminal. An IFHT(Inverse Fast Hadamard Transform) unit(202) performs an IFHT process by receiving a preamble signal configured by using a bidirectional orthogonal Walsh code. An accumulator(204) accumulates conversion signals outputted from the IFHT unit as many as certain integer multiplications to store the accumulated signals. A channel estimator(208) estimates a channel by receiving a pilot signal, and outputs a channel phase estimation value. A complex multiplier(206) multiplies a conjugate complex number of the channel phase estimation value by the preamble signal, and outputs a result signal. A size detector(210) receives the preamble signal, and detects size of the preamble signal. A code detector(212) receives the channel estimation-compensated preamble signal, and detects a code of an actual number component of the preamble signal.
