<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which has improved accuracy for discriminating the type of a recording material and has reduced time required for discrimination processing. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a detection section for detecting one or more parameters representing the properties of the recording material. The image forming apparatus includes a discrimination section for discriminating the type of the recording material, based on preset discrimination conditions representing the correspondence relationship between the parameter detected by the detection section and the type of the recording material. The image forming apparatus includes a condition set section for setting image forming conditions according to the discriminated type of the recording material and an error detection section for detecting the conveyance error of the recording material conveyed according to the set image forming conditions. The image forming apparatus includes a type addition section for adding the parameter detected from the recording material whose conveyance error is detected to the preset discrimination conditions, as new discrimination conditions for discriminating the type of the recording material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
