<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element the optical characteristics of which are hardly affected even when the surface of the optical element is rubbed or scratched by a conveying roll or the like and which has the function of polarizing and separating light. <P>SOLUTION: The optical element is obtained by layering a transparent resin layer A, a grid consisting of a plurality of light-absorptive films which are extended slenderly and linearly and arranged almost in parallel in states parted from one another, and another transparent resin layer B in this order. The transparent resin layer B has a convex structure B on the grid-side surface. The convex structure has a plurality of convex parts b.
