The arrangement (1) has a fuel cell stack (2), and a coolant (K) flowing through the stack between two plates (2.1) included in the stack. A component (5) is arranged at a side, which lies opposite to another side of the stack. The coolant is supplied to the former side of the stack from a coolant port (2.5) or a distributor end plate (2.3) and/or the coolant is re-conductable from the component to the stack. Coolant pipes (4) are provided between the component and the stack, where the component is formed as an ion exchanger or as a start heater.
