PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the deterioration of image quality that results from an alternation drive method, and that allows high-quality image display. SOLUTION: A positive-polarity drive state is defined as the state, when a gradation voltage of a potential higher than the potential of a counter voltage applied to a counter electrode is applied to a pixel electrode, and a negative-polarity drive state as the state, when a gradation voltage of a potential lower than the potential of a counter voltage applied to the counter electrode is applied to the pixel electrode. A video line drive circuit changes the drive states of each sub-pixel, from the positive polarity drive state to the negative-polarity drive state every two frames, or from the negative-polarity drive state to the positive-polarity drive state, and inverts the phases of the drive states of each sub-pixel every N (N≥4) frames. If a gradation voltage provided from the video line drive circuit to each video line in the period of the first frame A, immediately after the phase inversion is, defined as VA, and if the regular gradation voltage, provided from the video line drive circuit to each video line in the period of the normal frame B, is defined as VB, relation ¾VA¾<¾VB¾ is satisfied, at least in the intermediate gradation.
