PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a functional chitosan derivative easy to maintain its solubility at physiological pH, and further, formable into a construction material of microparticle capsules, to provide a chitosan crosslinked product and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This functional chitosan derivative is obtained by introducing a phenolic hydroxy group as a functional group in at least a part of free amino group at 2 position of glucosamine units constituting deacetylated chitins or chitosans. The chitosan crosslinked product occurs in association with the phenolic hydroxy group exposed to a chemical circumstance effective for the phenolic hydroxy group to be oxidized. Such chemical circumstance effective for the phenolic hydroxy group to be oxidized is preferably a reaction system, wherein at least one kind selected from among peroxidase, catalase, thyrosinase and laccase is reacted with the functional chitosan derivative.
