The method involves moving a brake lining (12) of an electromechanical disk brake (1) into two blocking up positions against a friction surface of an element e.g. brake disc (14), to be braked. The brake lining is brought into two contact points with the element for detecting position of the contact points using a sensor e.g. force sensor. A searched operational parameter is determined from the detected positions. The brake lining is moved to a lower reversal point across the contact points. An offset of the force sensor is determined.
